Important avalanche links
Here is the Winter Safety page for the Crater Lake website:
http://www.nps.gov/crla/planyourvisit/winter-safety.htm
Here is a handful of resources for some deeper reading for the patrol.
Avalanche.org - The hub for all US Avalanche centers, including ours at Shasta. Also some good education links.
http://www.avalanche.org/
USFS Avalanche Center - The USFS version of Avalanche.org much of the same content, a little flashier.
http://www.fsavalanche.org
International Snow Science Workshop - The ISSW has become the premier avalanche conference in the world. It acts as a forum where the avalanche industry comes together to discuss theories, explore innovative concepts, and maintain the state-of-the-art practice in the field of avalanche work. You can find a list of all past conferences here: http://www.issw.net/index.php
Clicking on an individual conference in the list will get you to the list of papers.
You can also find an historical archive of ISSW Proceedings here:
http://arc.lib.montana.edu/snow-science/
At the bottom of that page are sample citations that cycle through and change every time you refresh the page. Fun way to surf for avalanche reading.
Avalanche Accidents - For those who like to learn from others mistakes, alot can be found in the avalanche report database.

National Weather Service Forecast for Crater Lake
This link shows the forecast for the quadrant of the park that includes Park HQ and Rim Village, with an average elevation of 6,773 feet above sea level. It's the forecast that dispatch uses for the morning report and the one that we should use as well.
Crater Lake Automated Weather Station Data
This website hosts the weather data from our three automated weather stations: one at Rim Village, near the start of the West Rim Drive; one behind my house, near the sewage lagoons; and one in the middle of the lake, on the weather buoy that is anchored above the lake's deepest point. In the winter, I check the Rim Village weather station on occasion to see how deep the snow is at Rim Village. Throughout the year, I check the Lake weather station if I'm curious about the surface water temperature or want to know the wind speeds on the lake. Note: The Lake weather station is not currently working, but should be back online later this month.
Park Webcams
Tripcheck
This site, operated by Oregon Department of Transportation, has highway webcams, info on current road conditions and construction delays, and info on Oregon state Sno-Parks.
